Senior Heritage Advisor Melanie Thomson joins EMM

 We are pleased to welcome the appointment of experienced heritage consultant Melanie Thomson as Associate Director to lead our historical and Aboriginal heritage teams as Team Manager 

With over 20 years’ experience, Melanie brings a wealth of skill and expertise in impact assessment, stakeholder consultation, approvals and management plans for Aboriginal and historical heritage under both Commonwealth and State legislation in NSW and Victoria.

Based in Melbourne, Melanie has an extensive background working on a diverse portfolio of projects in the energy, mining, infrastructure and planning and development sectors with specialist advisory capability in providing high level due diligence advice to manage risk. Most recently, Melanie has been involved in the Victorian Murray Floodplain Restoration Project working closely with various government stakeholder and Aboriginal communities.

EMM’s heritage team consists of 19 specialists in both Aboriginal and historical heritage. Our experience spans major infrastructure projects, mining, oil and gas, government (Commonwealth, State and local), residential, and transport. Our team of experienced professionals provides practical, innovative and risk-based solutions for small-scale residential development up to multi-billion infrastructure projects. We apply cutting edge techniques and methods to our work including GPR, photogrammetry and web based digital recording. We are knowledgeable in all relevant heritage legislation and processes across Australia, with extensive experience of QLD, NSW and VIC requirements. With our large and experienced team, we can mobilise quickly and offer high quality services and advice anywhere in Australia.

Melanie holds a Bachelor of Science (Archaeology) from James Cook University and is a fully qualified ‘heritage advisor’ meeting all the requirements of the Victorian Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006.
