Environmental approvals specialist, Chris Pratt joins EMM

We are pleased to welcome the recent senior appointment of Chris Pratt as an Associate Director based in the company’s Brisbane office

With a global career, across Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, South Africa and the U.S, and spanning over three decades, Chris brings a wealth of environmental experience and expertise to EMM. As a generalist he has focussed on delivery of large-scale resource projects in Australia and has extensive experience with state and federal environmental approvals, particularly in the oil & gas, mining and industrial processes.

Originally from the UK, Chris commenced his career at the Oil Pollution Research Unit in West Wales and has held various industry and international senior consulting roles since this time. Calling Brisbane home now, after recent stints in Texas, Chris has project managed/directed a number of major EIS’s and baseline environmental studies for coal seam gas, mining, shale oil, coal gasification and sequestration projects in Queensland.

Chris’ strong understanding of the regulatory processes both in Australia (Federal and Queensland) and New Zealand, as well as international requirements and standards for project funding (e.g. IFC Performance Standards) are a welcomed addition to the local team. His expertise in both onshore and offshore energy has seen him lead the development of EISs for offshore seismic surveys, environmental approvals for onshore and offshore exploration wells, as well as the recent preparation of an environment plan for offshore decommissioning. Additionally, he has gained substantial experience with understanding environmental risks through the project management of many oil spill contingency plans and chemical risk assessments.

Commenting on his move to EMM, Chris remarked:

“I am thrilled to join the national Environment, Community, Approvals and Delivery team at EMM and am really looking forward to working with our clients on some of the exciting renewable energy and resources projects. Being back in an office, working with a talented multidisciplinary team is re-energising me for this new role. I am looking forward to providing our clients with practical and innovative environmental management that adds real value beyond merely obtaining approvals and managing compliance.”

EMM Director Duncan Peake welcomes Chris’ extensive experience with the energy and resources industries obtained across a portfolio of projects nationally and internationally.

“Chris brings fantastic knowledge and experience across several markets which not only complements the skillset and capability in the team but adds significant leadership depth. We are looking forward to working with Chris in developing and executing successful strategies for our clients to deliver on their projects.”

This senior appointment is in line with the company’s execution of its strategy to strengthen and diversify environmental planning expertise in the mining and energy markets.  The integrated team now comprises of over 80 professionals who work in partnership with clients to identify environmental constraints and opportunities as well as establish planning approval strategies and pathways which enable projects to achieve delivery milestones whilst recognising their environmental and social context.

Chris holds a Btec HND, Environmental Analysis and Monitoring from Farnborough College of Technology, England. In addition, Chris is an active member of Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand (EIANZ) and is a Certified Air Permitting Professional.
