Project overview
The Specimen Hill Wind Farm is located on the Calliope Range , situated between Kroombit Tops and the Dawson Highway in central Queensland, Australia. The location was chosen due to its excellent wind resource, access to high voltage transmission lines, and road access via the Dawson Highway. The project involves constructing 56 wind turbines, with supporting access tracks, underground and overhead power lines, two substations and battery storage system on-site. The project has potential to power nearly 140,000 homes
Our involvement
EMM has provided ongoing support to Ark Energy with primary approvals for the project including a referral under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). EMM has completed all seasonal flora and fauna surveys, bird utilisation surveys, prepared relevant impact assessments and supporting management plans including a Construction Environmental Management Plan, Flora and Fauna Management Plan, Bird and Bat Management Plan and Environmental Offset Strategy. EMM also completed required noise baseline surveys and impact assessments. EMM’s team worked collaboratively with Ark Energy to deliver technical studies required including identifying options to avoid and minimise impacts on matters of national environmental significance (MNES) through project design and construction methods. Development approval under EPBC Act was granted in September 2022.
