Board of Directors

The board is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the company. Comprising of a diverse mix of founding directors, external and independent Non Executive Directors and Executive Directors, the Board is accountable for corporate performance in accordance with our vision, purpose, goals and objectives.

Liz is an action oriented CEO, responsible for strategic guidance and direction for EMM and to ensures our people and our company achieves our vision of being THE leading. Liz is highly intentional in the pursuit of developing people and processes to ensure we remain aligned to our purpose, of ‘creating opportunities’ in accordance with our deep culture of behaviours and decisions based on humility, respect and integrity.

Joining the company in 2013 and a Director since 2016, Liz has amassed almost 30 years’ experience in science and engineering, and worked in consulting and the public sector in Australia and internationally.

She leads EMM with a central focus on people and creates an environment where the team feel empowered and engaged. Liz believes in the importance of professional and personal growth, and that courage and authenticity are required to develop, evolve and grow. Liz has strong beliefs that for teams and individuals to thrive as high performers they need to feel they have autonomy, relatedness to those around them, and, mastery and excellence in what they do this is paramount to success. Diversity and inclusion in the workplace is a core belief for Liz and she leads with intention emphasis on creating diverse teams that will thrive together.

Gary Flowers

Chairman

Appointed in early 2016, Gary plays an important role in the company’s strategic direction with an extraordinary depth of knowledge in the professional services and property and construction sectors.

With distinguished career spanning over 25 years, Gary brings a unique insight into strategy and leadership with experience as Chief (CXO/CEO/MD, COO, CFO) across three leading high-profile organisations in three different sectors. His key executive roles included National Managing Partner/CEO of Sparke Helmore Lawyers, Managing Director/CEO of Australia Rugby Union and SANZAR, and Chief Operating Officer for the Mirvac Group [ASX:MGR].

Now a professional Chairman and Non-Executive Director, Gary has extensive board and portfolio experience. His current roles include Chairman of NSW Institute of Sport, Chairman of Rawson Group Pty Ltd, and Chairman of Mainbrace Constructions Pty Ltd.

Duncan Peake

Director

Duncan has over 20 years’ experience in planning and environmental projects with breadth and depth of experience in development type, project scope and industry sectors. He delivers strategic and on-the-ground advice to clients in energy generation and transmission, mining, transport and waste management.

Having been with the company since its inception and a Director since 2016, Duncan has contributed significantly to the company’s growth and development as a leader in the provision of planning and environmental services in Australia.

Duncan has a detailed and comprehensive working knowledge of Commonwealth and State environmental legislation and its application in project approval and development to management planning and compliance. He provides strategic and expert advice on planning and environmental matters to clients from project conceptualisation to project completion and commissioning. Duncan is passionate about the value that meaningful planning and environmental advice and technical inputs can add to society and the positive impacts it can achieve through genuine collaboration.

Nicole Armit

Director

Nicole has 20 years of experience in environmental assessment and management. Her tertiary education in environmental engineering and environmental law provides a thorough grounding in the technical and regulatory complexities of assessments and approvals.

Nicole’s strategic project direction and business development role in EMM reflects her in-depth knowledge and experience in major projects across a range of sectors, particularly in mining and energy. As an advisor to a range of companies, she has successfully delivered numerous environmental assessments and approvals, as well as auditing and environmental management projects, in which she has shared her knowledge gathered from years of working on complex projects under state and Federal laws, regulations, policies and guidelines.

Nicole has a Bachelor of Environmental Engineering (Hons), University of NSW and a Master of Environmental Law, ANU. She is also a Certified Environmental Practitioner (Impact Assessment Specialist) and is a registered NSW Environmental Assessment Practitioner.

Paul Gibbons

Director

Paul has 20 years industry experience as an environmental practitioner across a range of industries in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. He has been a consultant to energy, infrastructure and mining companies and worked in-house as an environmental specialist.

Paul has successfully delivered projects involving complex environmental planning matters, as well as investigation, preparation and assessment of major resource and infrastructure developments. He also has extensive experience in environmental auditing, environmental management systems, environmental reporting, stakeholder consultation, project and contractor management. Paul provides strategic advice on risks, costs and schedules for complex projects. His expertise is invaluable for his project direction and business development role in EMM.

Paul has a Bachelor and Graduate Diploma of Resource Studies (Environmental Planning), Lincoln University NZ, a Master of Urban and Regional Planning, University of SA, and is a graduate of Adelaide University’s Professional Management Program.

Najah Ishac

Director & Company Secretary

Najah is a founding Director with over 30 years’ experience across the government and private sectors in Australia.

A mechanical engineer by profession, Najah was instrumental in establishing the company’s foundation systems and processes, challenging the norm on traditional approaches to ensure innovation is at the forefront. Today as Company Secretary, Najah ensures the compliance with all statutory obligations, laws and regulations with a focus on integrity. Najah is a leading acoustic engineer with a passion for coaching and sharing his all-encompassing knowledge of noise as a critical factor in the sustainable development of Australia’s social and industrial infrastructure. His specialisations include environmental noise, architectural acoustics, noise control and vibration and dynamics. He leads expert acoustic teams in large-scale mining and infrastructure projects and in urban and regional construction projects with individual noise control needs.

Najah has a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) and Master of Engineering Science, University of NSW. On request he gives evidence as an expert witness in the NSW Land and Environment Court. He is a Member of Engineers Australia and Australian Acoustical Society.

Brett McLennan

Director

Brett is a founding Director with experience leading planning and environmental services practices within respected consulting firms as well as managing environment and community relations for a quarries group within Australia’s largest construction materials company.

With education and background in statutory and strategic planning for government and private companies, Brett has 30 years of experience in all aspects of environmental assessment and management. Brett has extensive knowledge of the environmental, social and economic requirements of developments across a variety of industry sectors, with a focus on the mining extractive industry and energy sectors. He has leads teams on several high-profile projects including Snowy Hydro’s Snowy 2.0, which will be the largest engineering project in Australia’s history.

As Director, Brett employs and shares his wealth of practical knowledge gained from working efficiently and successfully over many years with State and Federal acts, regulations, policies and guidelines.

Brett has a Bachelor of Town Planning (Hons) and is also a Certified Environmental Practitioner, Certified Impact Assessment Specialist and Registered NSW Environmental Assessment Practitioner.

 

Luke Stewart

Non-Executive Director

Luke is a co-founder, Non-Executive Director and Board member at EMM Consulting.

Formerly as CEO, Luke led successful and sustainable growth before stepping down to enable succession and the continued flow of energy through the company. During his tenure, the team grew organically by over 700%; the company expanded geographically, to its now national footprint; it diversified across markets and sectors and capabilities to drive industry leading service to our clients; efficient systems and policies evolved; and strong corporate governance was implemented.

Luke remains steadfast in keeping values and culture at the heart of everything does. He assists to drive a culture of trust and empowerment where no one is bigger than the team. Luke set the foundation for establishing the company’s ‘creating opportunities’ purpose, a guiding principle which underpins decisions linked to clients, the community and the EMM team.

This same approach to leadership is applied in his role as Non-Executive Director and Chair of Dover Castle Metals, which is focused on the exploration and processing of strategic and critical minerals in Far North Queensland, and Co-founder and Non-Executive Director role with Blue Carbon S2C, which will achieve real action on climate change at scale by developing and financing blue, teal and green carbon projects and trading our own and third-party carbon credits and co-benefits.

Together, Luke’s roles provide him with a holistic view of the transition to the green economy, its challenges and opportunities and the fundamentally important role companies such as EMM play.

Luke is a big believer in making a positive impact and giving back to the community. He has fundraised for charity Running for Premature Babies, enabling the purchase of life saving medical equipment for both Royal Hospital for Women, Sydney, and Alice Springs Hospital NICU. Luke is now involved with the establishment of a permanent east coast chapter of Ocean Heroes, a non-for-profit providing children on the Autism spectrum with the opportunity to surf in a safe, fun and inclusive environment.

Mark Elliott

Non-Executive Director

Mark Elliott was appointed to EMM’s board as Non-Executive Director in February 2020. With an extensive background of over 35 years’ experience, Mark has held various CEO positions for the past two decades in the engineering, infrastructure, construction and mining services sectors. During this time, has led major strategy development and implementation programs and managed profitability, compliance and risk in complex environments. He has worked for multi-national and Australian companies listed on the ASX and in Europe, controlled by private equity or owned by a few significant shareholders.  In his last CEO role, Mark led a multi-billion dollar Public Private Partnership project, bringing state-of-the-art technology and design to Australia.

Mark is also a Non-Executive Director at Aeria Management Group (Bankstown and Camden Airport), (Chair) Apricot Consulting, (Chair) St Paul’s College (Sydney University ) and the Displaced Students Trust. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from the University of Sydney and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He has completed Executive Development programs at Stanford University, the Macquarie Graduate School of Management and the Institute of Administration (UNSW).

Christy Boyce

Non-Executive Director

Christy Boyce is a highly accomplished and respected Non-Executive Director and strategic advisor.  With a career spanning over 25 years in strategic consulting, Christy brings a wealth of experience and insight to her role as Non-Executive Director at EMM.

Her collaborative leadership style and sharp business acumen enable her to provide insightful guidance, ensuring effective risk management and optimal decision-making. Christy’s contributions as a Non-Executive Director have been instrumental in transforming businesses and positioning them for long-term success.

In addition to her consulting experience, Christy has been a Non-Executive Director on various boards including ASX-listed companies Greencross Limited, Monash IVF Group and OneView Healthcare. She is currently a Non-Executive Director of CSR Limited, BAI Australia, Vera Living and the SCEGGS (Darlinghurst) Trust.

Christy holds a Masters of Management from Kellogg Graduate School of Management (Northwestern University) and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
