Muswellbrook Waste Transfer Station

Central Waste Plant is developing the Muswellbrook Waste Transfer Station to reduce customer travel distances and to allow efficient onsite pre-sorting of waste prior to further sorting and processing at their Kurri Kurri resource recovery facility.

Central Waste Plant Pty Ltd | Muswellbrook, New South Wales

Project overview
Central Waste Plant Pty Ltd is dedicated to the pursuit of environmental sustainability by recovering recyclable materials from waste and thereby diverting a significant percentage of waste from landfill. Their Kurri Kurri facility currently has the region’s only mechanised, large-scale resource recovery plant and achieves high rates of resource recovery from mixed waste. CWS sought approval for the establishment of a waste transfer station in Muswellbrook. The facility will provide a pre-sorting and consolidation point for the collection of general solid waste (non-putrescible) comprised of construction and demolition waste, commercial and industrial waste and municipal solid waste.
Our involvement
EMM was engaged by Central Waste Plant to prepare an EIS to assess the potential impacts of the project pursuant to Part 4 of the EP&A Act. The EIS found that through implementation of measures to avoid, minimise and mitigate waste, the Project will not result in significant adverse impacts upon the receiving built or natural environments. The Project is considered to be in the public interest and was approved subject to the implementation of the proposed management measures.
