Good practice guide for the assessment and management of air pollution from road transport projects

The good practice guide for the assessment and management of air pollution from road transport projects (‘the Guide’) is an outcome of extensive collaboration between air quality experts and road agencies in Australia and New Zealand.

Clean Air Society of Australia and New Zealand (CASANZ)

Project overview
The Guide has been developed by CASANZ to support the assessment of air quality impacts from the construction and operation of road projects. An initiative of the CASANZ Transport Special Interest Group (TSIG), it is the outcome of an extensive collaboration between air quality experts and road agencies in Australia and New Zealand. It is aimed at project proponents, planners, air quality practitioners and approval authorities in Australia and New Zealand.
Our involvement
The EMM Air Quality team supported by Pattle Delamore Partners (PDP) and the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) in New Zealand, collaborated extensively with the CASANZ Transport Special Interest Group and road agencies across Australia and New Zealand to develop a comprehensive procedure to determine the changes in air quality due to road projects. The Guide was published by CASANZ in January 2023 and is publicly available on the CASANZ website
