Project overview
The Eva Copper Mine Project is a greenfield metalliferous mine formally known as the Roseby Copper Project located 76 km northwest of Cloncurry and 194 km northeast of Mount Isa. The Project is planned to mine 170 million tonnes (Mt) of ore and 381 Mt of waste from seven open pit deposits across the mining leases with a minimum projected mine life of 15 years. In August 2021, an Environmental Assessment Report (EAR) was submitted to the Queensland Department of Environment and Science (DES) to facilitate a major amendment to the Project's Environmental Authority (EA). The EA was approved in November 2022, following extensive consultation with the regulator. The Eva Copper Mine Project was sold to new owners Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited, who are undertaking further project optimisations. A suite of management plans and revised environmental assessment obligations will be required to facilitate the commencement of the Project.

Our involvement
EMM was engaged to prepare an Environmental Authority major amendment and progressive rehabilitation closure plan. The assessment process for the proposed Environmental Authority amendment and progressive rehabilitation closure plan consisted of four stages; application stage, information stage, notification stage, and decision stage. We were also subsequently engaged by the new owners, Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited, to provide continuity in environmental support and to facilitate the implementation of post EA approval requirements including strategic advice, various management plans, waste rock testing and analysis and support for further investigations in relation to the project’s water supply.
