EMM Consulting is pleased to announce the senior appointment of mining specialist Nick Currey as an Associate Director based in Brisbane.
With a distinguished career spanning three decades, Nick brings a wealth of experience across the Mining and Resources sector in Australia and Internationally. Having held various roles across industry, government and consulting, Nick has built an established reputation for his “hands-on” approach to developing and implementing policy, standards and systems across the mining life-cycle from exploration, operations and closure.
With a double major degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry, Nick commenced his career working in the Northern Territory as environmental chemist specialising in heavy metal toxicity and the potential impacts on the environment, as well as monitoring at the former Rum Jungle uranium mine. Since this appointment, Nick has worked in 15 countries holding various mine operational and corporate Environment, Community and Health, Safety Management roles with Placer Dome, Lihir Gold Limited and Newcrest Mining.
Nick has considerable experience providing environmental and approvals advice to inform feasibility studies and has both project managed and peer reviewed numerous EIS approvals including those for Sconi, Bonikro, Lihir MOPU and Frieda River.

Nick also has extensive experience representing the mining industry on Australian and International Associations and working groups including; International Council on Mining and Metals, The International Network for Acid Prevention, Minerals Council of Australia, Queensland Resources Council and the University of Queensland Sustainable Minerals Institute, Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining and Centre for Mined Land Rehabilitation Advisory Boards.
The integrated EMM team provide cradle to grave environmental and community support to the mining sector from the design, assessment, construction, operational and closure phases of mining sector projects.
