Due to strong growth and some exciting project wins we have two excellent opportunities for experienced and passionate Senior or Associate Ecologist’s to join our team. These positions are offered on a permanent full-time basis from our NSW offices; however, at present we are empowering our people to make their own choice in regards to their work venue with choices that include working from home, in our offices or a mix of both.

These roles will be focused on utilising your technical experience and project management skills to deliver key projects. This will include proposal preparation, leading some field surveys, client and regulator liaison and other office-based work comprising report writing, as well as supporting the ecology team and EMM in various aspects of project delivery. Travel for work interstate is generally limited at present due to COVID-19 restrictions but as these restrictions lift there is potential to support project delivery interstate.

The successful candidate will be able to confidently demonstrate the following essential criteria:

  • alignment with EMM’s culture, values and vision;
  • completion of a degree in ecology or a related discipline;
  • five years plus of relevant post graduate experience, preferably gained within an ecological consultancy environment;
  • high aptitude in managing projects;
  • strong experience with planning and leading ecological projects and field surveys;
  • highly organised and able to handle multiple projects;
  • strong experience undertaking flora and fauna assessments aligned with the Biodiversity Assessment method (BAM);
  • strong working knowledge of relevant NSW and Commonwealth environmental legislation and planning policies;
  • ability to share technical knowledge and experience to support mentoring and training of the team;
  • high level of clear written and oral communication skills;
  • well-developed written skills including preparation of ecological reports such as ecological impact assessments, monitoring reports and management plans;
  • good interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise with the team, clients and all relevant stakeholders;
  • willingness to mentor junior professionals;
  • be proficient in Microsoft Office applications; and
  • have a current/valid unrestricted NSW driver’s licence.

The following criteria is desirable:

  • BAM accreditation or capacity to attain accreditation;
  • preparation of biodiversity stewardship agreements;
  • robust botany skills with ability to lead flora assessments in NSW;
  • experience in preparation of large tenders and bids; and
  • experience managing interstate projects.
