As part of the project transport impacts assessment for the proposed 118 Mt/y expansion of the coal loading facilities at the Port of Newcastle, a detailed construction stage traffic impact assessment was made that examined the access requirements for a proposed peak construction workforce of 1,500 people.
This required detailed intersection modelling of future morning and afternoon peak hour traffic conditions at all the major intersections on the access routes. State and local government transport authorities and community groups were also consulted in detail. To accommodate the predicted peak construction stage workforce commuting, a future access strategy for a dayshift workforce shuttle bus was developed.
