Proposed Sutton Forest Quarry

Projects

Overview

Lack of access for vehicles to the Hume Highway, south of the Illawarra Highway junction and the Sutton Forest Service Centre interchange, is a major development constraint for existing quarries to expand and potential new quarry operations to develop. Generally, Roads and Maritime Services will not permit any new right turn access or increased use of any existing right turn access on this section of the highway.

EMM investigated alternative access options to the Hume Highway, which avoid at-grade right turn access, for a proposed quarry development south of Sutton Forest that would produce one million tonnes of sand a year. We identified a preferred road access option and prepared accompanying concept road alignment and intersection designs and a provisional cost estimate for the civil engineering works.
