Proposed Carrington Asphalt Plant Upgrade



The proposal would generate increased truck traffic to and from the site that would coincide with the existing morning peak hour commuter traffic on nearby roads. EMM’s assessment included surveys at two major road intersections and SIDRA analysis of the peak hour impacts of the traffic the project would generate.

EMM consulted Roads and Maritime Services and Newcastle City Council in detail about whether the affected intersections had the capacity to cope with potential traffic increases, and it was agreed the increase in traffic would not warrant new traffic signals at any intersection.

EMM also investigated the local area’s traffic accident history in detail and found that, despite the generally high levels of truck traffic on the route during most of the day, the heavy vehicle traffic using Industrial Drive had not compromised traffic safety.
